where we walk, 2016

photography installation in Look Closer exhibit at Stanford's Coulter Gallery
materials and processes: digital photography, inkjet printed photos, woodworking, fiberboard, paint

often we are so busy rushing around
that we don't take the time to stop and look down.
where am i standing?  am i in a natural place or human-made?
what beauty would i have missed if i had not stopped a moment?

i photographed these black flats while walking barefoot, exploring the relationship between the ground and my feet,
and questioning the protection and isolation that our everyday footwear provides us.

the collection of floor-mounted photos encouraged viewers to walk among them,
following a path of different scenarios, and asked viewers to be more conscious
and appreciative of their relationship to the ground they walk on every day.
