prayer flags, 2015

hand-dyed and calligraphed prayer flags
materials and processes: muslin cloth, RIT dyes, archival ink pen, illuminated lettering

prayer flags fly throughout the world as symbols of peace and hope.  in many communities, the flags are left up until they tear off from the rope that anchors them - a sign that the prayer has been answered.

the rugged beauty,
spirituality of prayer flags, and their unifying power have always fascinated me.

i created these prayer flags to bring with me to
graduate school.  they hang in my room,
reminding me of my friends and
family around
the world.
